 My parents were both officers in the United States Navy.  My father George, Lieutenant, J.G. commanded US 1355 on Atlantic coast convoy duty.  My my mother, Ensign Clare was a communications officer at Norfolk, Va.  When they died memorial plaques were placed in public places - at the Santa Barbara municipal glof course; and the Clare Conk houses on the board of which she served.

Mom and Dad were cremated.  We cast their ashes at sea - in the Santa Barbara Channel where we were surrounded by hundreds of migrating southbound dolphins.

Tahlequah, an orca well-known for having carried her dead calf for over two weeks back in 2018, has been struck by a heartbreaking event once again. After it was recently announced that the orca had given birth, the new calf has since died – and Tahlequah has been spotted carrying this calf too.

The 100th anniversary of Sir Ernest Shackleton's death was three years ago on Wednesday, January 5, 2022. Shackleton, an Anglo-Irish polar explorer, died in his cabin on the exploration ship Quest at the age of 47.

Here are some other anniversaries related to Shackleton:

• February 15, 2024: The 150th anniversary of Shackleton's birth in Kilkea, Ireland. A memorial plaque was unveiled in his honor at Westminster Abbey.
