I was a Dodger fan - and stayed a fan until the Negro League and Dodger great Jim Gilliam died in 1978. I switched to the Mets and was a loyal fan for the 1986 World Series, jumping for joy when Bill Buckner watched a dribbler bounce through his legs. But in the lean years I switched to the Americnan League Cleveland Indians - because Washington Heights's Manny Ramirez was playing for them. I followed Manny to the Red Sox who were making themselves attractive by winning. I am still a Sox fan but I'm happy for Santana and the Mets that Johan Santana has pitched the first no-hitter in franchise history.
Residents of this 1.5-mile-long strip of wood-frame houses and seafood restaurants are fighting once more for a ladder company that has so little to do that it ranks last out of New York City’s 341 fire companies in workload. Last year, the city spent millions to keep the company operating, but it did not respond to a single serious house fire on this island of 4,300.
After a very successful campaign south to St Maarten for the Heineken Regatta and Antigua for the Antigua Classics, we are in need for two to three crew to help get Golden-Eye back up to Bermuda. The trip is 850 offshore miles and will take 5 1/2 to 7 days. Departing from St. Maarten on or about May 21st. This date can be change to help get crew aboard. We don't want to leave any later then June 1st. Golden-Eye is a great off shore boat and did the 1,350 mile trip down to St Johns in eight days with light winds for the first four days out. If you are interested please email or call me.
Issuma is underway. They have left Sitka, headed north through the Neva Strait, Olga Strait and Kakul Narrows, to Warm Springs Bay and the inside passage where they are now southbound. Along the way they have met interesting people like Dave and Anke who sail (without power) the southeast Alsaka region, and who believe there is no tomorrow.
