Quit y'er complainin'. The AC 72's are fast

Let's get over the whining about the America Cup.  Yes it's a club for the super-rich.  Hasn't it always been?  These boats are fast.  It is not like watching grass grow.  More like Nascar.  Here's Artemis - in blue - in the first race of the Challenger series and their first race in their new boat. Taking the start and windward leg - peaking at 39 kts.  This is a tribute to their team mate Andrew Simpson - the Olympic Gold medalist who died when their AC 72 footer pitch-poled.

Midnight on the Great South Bay. Smudgy clouds, a stiff wind, a full moon, now hidden, now in the clear, gloriously bright, high beams on rippling blacktop.

On a pier at the end of Blue Point Avenue, a dozen people are doing what they do on the South Shore of Long Island on summer nights: catching the blue-claw crabs that swarm the muddy inlets and dock pilings every July and August.

The boat fishermen are in bed. The night surf-casters are out on the barrier island, flinging bait chunks into the ocean. The crabbers are on the inland side of the bay, a few feet from their cars, with nets, buckets and flashlights.

I've photographed  Elwyn's wharf in many lights and conditions, summer and winter, high tidelow tide.  Yesterday, on a summer Sunday morning he was loaded up with new lobster traps to be set the next day.
