L. FRANCIS HERRESHOFF: THE FLOWERING of GENIUS VOLUME II 1931 - 1972
By Roger C. Taylor - Mystic Seaport
I was enjoying my blackened haddock sandwich on the waterfront at Port Clyde, USA as the town likes to bill itself - when I saw a familiar shape.
Ticonderoga - the flagship of Greenwich, CT's Indian Harbor Yacht Club had entered the mooring field.
The 90 year old clipper-bow boat is the most famous of L.Francis Herreshoff's dozens of designs.
72 feet on deck, 63' on the waterline, 79' overall, displacing 102,388 lbs, it is a beautifully proportioned marconi-rigged ketch.
Today's mission? Ice cream for the young crew.
