Rockland, Maine: Lobster Trap Christmas Trees

It's an art form that developed when plastic-wrapped wire traps replaced the iconic wooden lobster traps.  They stack high - and green is one of the common colors used.  This one in Rockland was featured on the Discovery Channel.  You see some on lawns too.  Like this one at a fisherman's house on Main Street in Friendship.

Buoys of Summer

Yesterday's snow day and today's bright skies have me thinking of summer. The Katherine Walker reminded me of a day two summers ago when Nancy and I took the Parker to Rockland, ran into Jeff en famille on High Idle, had lunch, and headed home via Muscle Ridge Channel. A story with a storm.

But it was the buoys on the seawall that the Katherine Walker dropping the summer buoy in at West 181 and the River brought to mind.

Friendship, Stones Point, Rockland, and Thomaston - Valentine's Day 2009

We went up to Maine for the weekend - to check the work done on the house, buy stuff for when we take posession in May, have dinner with friends.  And, of course, shop for a seaworthy craft for man and dog to explore the Back River, Meduncook River and the other waters of Friendship and Cushing.  Found a Monhegan skiff.  Hope to clinch the deal soon.
